The sun only produces shadows because its light is blocked by some obstacle. It is the Earth's rotation that makes shadows change size and location. But this verse says shadows are due to sun's movement by calling it the guide of shadows. A non-living "guide" can have two meanings: a controller of movement or an indicator. Other translations of this verse do call the sun an indicator but this also is unscientific because sun causes shadows and it cannot ''indicate'' them. | |||

Further, this verse suggests that shadows can be made stationary i.e. rotation of the earth can be stopped. This is not possible. Then the next verse says that shadows are drawn towards Allah which has no scientific meaning. | |||
