People who believe it are called Muslims and there are 1.5+ billion Muslims, which makes Islam the second most wide-spread religion after Christianity. There are two main sects of Islam: sunni and shia. Islam was split into these two sects right after Muhammad's death, because Muslims disagreed about who should be their leader. The political side of Islam is sometimes called Islamism.
