An Abrahamic religion is generally a monotheistic faith which traces its origins to Abraham. The three largest Abrahamic religions are Christianity (2.3 – 2.5 billion adherents), Islam (1.1 – 1.8 billion adherents) and Judaism (14 – 18 million adherents).[1]

In the Qur'an this designation to religions founded prior to the advent of Islam is described as ′Ahl al-Kitāb (People of the Book), and includes the now extinct Sabian religion.[2]
