The primary purpose of our Islam in the News pages are to provide others with interesting news stories to reference in their own discussions and writings. So whilst it is nice to have up-to-the-minute news on Islam, it is not an essential requirement here.

Each day we should provide readers with about 2 to 3 news stories, so a lag of 2 to 3 days is acceptable whilst editors decide which articles are best to archive by adding to the site. For example, on the 30th of any given month, our site may only have news up the 28th.

For up-to-the-minute news and opinions on Islam, we recommend TheReligionOfPeace.com as an additional resource.

The persecution of minorities, freedom of speech, and some other topics are generally not covered here. This is because we cover these issues in separate pages which can be found via the News hub page.

Topics in "Islam in the News" should cover miscellaneous issues not dealt with in the other news-related pages, such as clerical abuse, failed terrorist plots, Sunni-Shi'ite violence, and news of a more political nature (such as the "Arab spring" and other political developments in Islamic countries).

News articles covering statistics and Muslim opinion polls are also discouraged, since these can be added to the relevant Muslim Statistics page. However, as with the other topics, there can be exceptions made for particularly "big" news stories.

No region should be given priority over another. For example, developments concerning Islam in Asia or Africa are as important as developments in Europe or the Americas. WikiIslam is an international site with editors and contributors from all over the world, so our content should reflect this.

When adding news articles, be sure to follow the formating already in use on the page, archive the links using WebCitation.org, and update the WikiIslam:Latest News page. Alternatively, you can leave links on the talk page for other editors to consider adding (these will be removed once viewed).
