{{Quote|{{Muslim|41|6988}}|
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
The Last Hour would not come until there would arise about thirty impostors, liars, and each one of them would claim that he is a messenger of Allah.

The idea of false prophets was nothing new. Muhammad himself was among many self-proclaimed prophets and even in his time there was a different prophet called by Muslims "Musaylimah al-Kadhdhāb" (Musaylama the Liar).
Muhammad predicted that there were will be around 30 false prophets, but there were much more self-proclaimed prophets and the Hour didn't come, so it's of Muhammad's failed prophecies.
Prediction of false prophets was also nothing new. False prophets were already predicted in the Bible, hundreds of years before Muhammad:
{{Quote|The Bible (NIV), Matthew 24:10-11|
At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many '''false prophets will appear and deceive many people'''.
}}
{{Quote|The Bible (NIV), Matthew 7:15-20|
Watch out for '''false prophets'''. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
