Monotheism is defined as a doctrine or belief that there is only one God.[1] In Islam this is known as Tawhid (توحيد tawḥīd "doctrine of Oneness"). This is a concept most often associated with the Abrahamic religions, but also exists within non-Abrahamic faiths (e.g. Sikhism) and among individuals without official religious affiliation.

Quran 5:116 claims the Christian Trinity consists of three separate gods, which are the Father (God), the Mother (Virgin Mary) and the Son (Jesus), and due to this erroneous understanding of the Trinity doctrine, Muslims consider all Trinitarian Christians to be polytheists.
